  2. Wanted: • All types of libraries, statewide to participate • Library must be OPEN to the public, not only library’s primary patrons Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009

  3. Statewide Application • Objectives • Problem • Approach Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009

  4. Eligible costs: • Up to $75,000 BTOP funds [for a two year period] per library building subject to available matching funds by DCEO • Broadband-related equipment, instrumentation, network capability, hardware/software and digital network technology for broadband services • Choice of equipment, hardware, software, peripherals and/or furnishings – Menu provided in Appendix I • Personnel/training support Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009

  5. What each library needs to agree to do: • Create or expand a public computer center: • Broadband access and technology training to public 768 kilobits per second downstream and 200 kbps upstream • Access and training to Illinois workNet portal • Access and training to GEDi • Access and training on NLS/digital download audio books • Promote access to Illinois Legal Aid Online/legal information • Dedicate staff (or hire contractor) • Sustain project after the grant expires Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009

  6. Training Programs & Resources • Participating libraries will provide public broadband access and support technology training and educational programs for at least 15 hours per week • Training might involve formal classes, group projects, self-paced or one-on-one instruction • Participating libraries will be encouraged to develop additional programs that meet the local broadband access and training needs Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009

  7. Customized Technology training and educational programs • Level 1 – Technology Literacy • Level 2 – Job Readiness • Level 3 – Job Searches Public Computer Center - Round Two December 2009
