  4. Level 1 - Systems • Defined • A computerized clinical information decision-support system that integrates clinical evidence with patient records and is updated regularly. • Resources • very few level 1 system available.

  5. Level 2 - Summaries • Defined • Clinical pathway, clinical practice guidelines, textbook summaries that integrate evidence based information • Resources for finding summaries • Clinical Evidence • Resources for finding Clinical Practice Guidelines • National Guidelines Clearinghouse

  6. Level 3 – Synopses of Syntheses • Defined • Summary of a systematic review • Practical • Commentary • Resources for finding synopses of syntheses • Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE)

  7. Level 4 – Systematic Reviews • Defined • Multiple studies • Evaluated equally • Same authors update • Detailed search of literature • Resources for finding systematic reviews • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

  8. Level 5 – Synopses of a Study • Defined • Brief • Just enough information • One study • Resources for finding synopses of a study • Evidence-based Nursing • Evidence-based Mental Health

  9. Level 6 - Studies • Defined • Original research studies • Resources for finding Studies • CINAHL • Other resources • Depending on your topic, there are other subjects you might want to explore.

Remember about Levels of EB • In evidence-based nursing practice, nurses typically start to look for evidence at the first level. • If that level does not provide the required evidence, the search would be continued to the second level. • The search would continue through the levels with each level requiring increasing time and effort until the best evidence is found or an exhaustive search through the available resources is done. • Not all subjects/topics have reached Level 2, today

  11. Remember in searching • Plan your terms (plan = search out meaning and obtain more search words) • Record your search using the search strategy worksheet • Limiters • Truncation possibility (*) • Connectors (AND, OR) • Takes time but come to Learning Commons for assistance

  12. Activate the EBSCOHost app • Access CINAHL from a campus computer • Click the link “iPhone and Android apps” at the bottom of the page • Follow the instruction to send an email to yourself. Note: you need to be able to access the email account from your device. • Retrieve the email from your device, follow the instructions in the email to activate the access key (the App has been downloaded already). Note: The activation link expires within 24 hours. • Your EBSCOhost App will be activated and launched from your device . • Return to search screen and run the search!
