Fix the Formulation • If you didn’t firmly state the time frame of the case at the outset of the analysis • If you didn’t state the source and analyze the quality of the mission statement • If the general or industry environmental analysis was company specific • If your scenarios were not broadly constructed • If your LT objective was not sharp • If you did not develop two alternatives at both the corporate and business level

  5. Implementation • Triggered by translation of Long Term Objective into Short Term (aka annual) Objectives • Make sure they relate to your LT objective which is to say they are dedicated to resolving your core issue/problem • Three to Five Short Term Objectives

  6. Identify Two Key Functional Areas Which two functional Areas – operations, finance & accounting, marketing, R&D/technology, or human resources – does your group think are more critical to the resolution of the core problem – which is to say more critical to the successful implementation of your strategy.

  7. So perhaps something like this…ST objective by objective • Short Term Objective • Key Functional Area • Short Term (aka Functional, aka Tactics) Strategies

  8. Here’s what I do regarding delegation • Two persons working jointly on the ST objectives and ST strategies section • One person for Institutionalization • One person for Governance and Control • One person for the company and industry updates • Everyone for the Project Future Trends – pull out the crystal ball. What will be see 10, 20 years from now?
