  2. Sheet Metal • The most common types of Sheet Metal material used in HVAC are: • Aluminum • Stainless Steel

  3. Aluminum • Aluminum is used extensively for architechtural products such as flashings, pressings, cills, soffits and capping. • It is also excellent for painting and powder coating

  4. Aluminum (cont.) • Aluminum is used extensively in fabrications because they are easy to work

  5. Aluminum (cont.) • General Properties of Aluminum • It has very good weight to strength ratio • Most commonly occurring metal on the planet • Non toxic - Good reflector of light and can be polished

  7. Stainless Steel • There are 3 common Stainless steel grades: • 304 • 316 • 410

  8. Stainless Steel (cont.) • Grade 304 most common • Good resistance to corrosion • It can also be formed and welded

  9. Stainless Steel (cont.) • Grade 316 offers: • More corrosion resistance at elevated temps • Commonly used on pumps, valves, chemical equipment and marine applications

  10. Stainless Steel (cont.) • Grade 410 is heat treatable: • Doesn’t offer good corrosion resistance • Commonly used in cutlery • Has a dull finish
