  3. General Admin • Please sign tonight's register & provide e-mail addresses • Please hand in the following: - Essential Information Form - Home-Academy Agreement

  4. Head of Community and Tutor • Head of Community and Deputy Head of Community • Ensures pastoral and academic support for the students in a Community. • Lead & Support Tutor • Lead tutor is the first and main point of contact between Academy & home. • Mentoring • All students mentored 3 times per year in a 20 min session. • Students can discuss anything about their Cabot experience in privacy.

  5. Y7 Groupings • Community groups – the students sitting in the same room as you now are all in the same community. • Tutor Groups – These are vertical and are made up of about 5 students from each year group. • Teaching Groups – These are mixed so that there is a variety of abilities, primary schools and gender in each class. There will be an average of 27 students in each teaching group. You will be taught in teaching groups for subjects like English, Maths, Humanities, Expressive Arts and MFL. Some subjects like Maths will set according to ability. You will be taught in practical groups of 20 for Science and Technology.

  6. Absences & Holidays • Please contact the Academy on FIRST day of child being ill via phone (0117 9763000, then select option 2). • Absence without reason will be chased automatically by a truancy call. • Please do not take holidays during term time – such absences will not be authorised. • Please write to the Principal if you need to request any time off during term time. Term dates can be found on the Academy website.

  7. Lockers • All students will be given a locker on arrival at Cabot. They will keep this locker for the duration of their time here. • Students should only access lockers • at the beginning or end of the day, • at break time and lunch time. • Each student will need to bring in £2 for a locker key. It is a good idea for students to also bring a key-ring on their first day.

  8. Catering cards • The canteen is a ‘cashless’ system. Students will be given a card at the start of term. Students need to credit their account in order to purchase food - Cash can be put into a machine in reception. • If you prefer you can pay by cheque. Please make these payable to ‘Sodexo’ and write the student’s name on the back. • If you lose your card – don’t panic. You can still make purchases by giving your name or card no at the till. A replacement card costs £3. • All students will receive a free lunch on thefirst day – Friday 23rd August.

Structure of the day 8.30 – 8.40 Morning Registration 8.40 – 9.20 Period 1 9.20 – 10.00 Period 2 10.00 – 10.40 Period 3 10.40 – 10.55 Breaktime 10.55 – 11.30 Period 4 11.30 – 12.05 Period 5 12.05 – 12.40 Year 7 Lunch 12.40 – 1.15 Period 7 1.15 – 1.50 Period 8 1.50 – 2.25 Period 9 2.25 – 3.00 Period 10 3.00 – 3.20 Afternoon Registration / Assembly 3.30 - 4.20 Extended Day Mon - Wed

Break and lunchtime • You will have a 15 minute break in the morning from 10.40am – 10.55am. • This will give you time to go to the toilet, have a snack and a drink and to get everything you need for the next session of lessons. • Y7 have a 35 min lunch break from 12.05pm – 12.40pm. • Students may purchase lunch or bring a packed lunch.

  11. Uniforms • Please see the information page on the Academy website for full details • All students are expected to follow the set uniform and sports kit • It is a good idea to use name labels • Strictly black shoes or ALL black trainers • Please ask if you are unsure about any aspects of our uniform policy

  12. Equipment • School bag – you will have a locker to leave your bag in during the day. • Pencil case – blue or black pen, pencil, sharpener, eraser, ruler & colouring pencils. • Food Tech – A large box or tin for ingredients and cooked food. • Chewing gum is not permitted so please do not bring it to school.

  13. Jewellery • One wristwatch and one pair of stud earrings in the ear lobes. • For H&S reasons no other jewellery is allowed will be confiscated if necessary. • No makeup but nail varnish is allowed. • Hair not to be dyed to an unnatural colour or to be of an unusual style.

  14. Mobile Phones ipods & mp3 Players • The above items must not be used in the school building. • If you wish to bring these items to school then they must be kept in your locker during the school day. • If any of these items are seen by a member of staff they will be confiscated and parents will be asked to come to the school to collect them.

  15. Reports & Parents Evenings • Each student will receive an annual report. You need to access these reports on-line. They will give you an indication of achievement, progress and target areas to work on. • There will be the opportunity to meet face to face with the subject teachers during Parents Evening which will take place once a year.

  16. Behaviour • The Academy has very high expectations – one of the reasons this school is successful is due to these high standards. • All students are expected to behave in a way that allows teachers to teach and students to learn: • Respect yourself • Respect others • Respect the environment
