  37. Supplement:Quest vWorkspace compared to the Citrix line-up

  38. Quest vWorkspace Compared to the Citrix Line-up • The Quest vWorkspace Desktop Virtualization Solution is less costly, less complex and easier to manage than Citrix XenDesktop. • The Quest vWorkspace Desktop Virtualization Solution does not replace or add required components to the Microsoft Virtualization stack, but rather extends and enhances what is already there. High Level… Perpetual License Comparison ~$450 (at 2:1), Equivalent concurrent user price - does not include support or maintenance $225 per named user or access device. $450 $169 per concurrent user - includes 1 year of 24x7 support and maintenance $225 $169 Quest vWorkspace Enterprise Citrix XenDesktop Enterprise

  39. Quest vWorkspace Compared to the Citrix Line-up vWorkspace is less complex… In this case, Less is More. • Less time learning and switching between disparate systems = more time doing and being productive • One infrastructure/farm vs. three (XenDesktop + XenApp + Provisioning Services) • One unified management console vs. many (up to as many as 6 different consoles with Citrix – each with their own interface)

  40. Quest vWorkspace Compared to the Citrix Line-up vWorkspace is easier to implement… Extend and Enhance vs. Add and Replace. • Does not require extending the Active Directory Schema • Full, native integration with, and automation of Microsoft SCVMM • Automates nativeplatform storage functionality (e.g. Microsoft Hyper-V Differencing Disks), vs. requiring proprietary Citrix Provisioning Server • More flexibility in deployment options - AD User, AD Group, AD OU, Device IP or Device Name • Does not require separate VLANs or PXE Boot (Citrix Provisioning Server requires these)

  41. Quest vWorkspace Compared to the Citrix Line-up vWorkspace is easier to manage… Delegate to the lowest cost IT staff. • Resolve calls at the helpdesk - XenDesktop doesn't offer "integrated" tools to resolve helpdesk calls • Integrated User Environment Configuration and Profile Management • Schedule, Automate, Search, Filter, Sort, Remote Control, Remote Task Manager, MSI Push • Eliminates printing issues that are notorious with Citrix

  42. Supplement:Customer Case Studies and WinWires

  43. Case Study – Donna Independent School District • Critical Needs • Reduce student desktop costs • Double the number of classroom computers • Centralize desktop management and improve security • Leverage existing virtual environment without adding infrastructure costs • Results • Saved $60,000 per year in reduced energy • Reduced maintenance costs by 50%, saving over $800,000 over four years • Improved reliability, security and instructional uptime • Doubled the number of student desktops by using cost savings “The Quest vWorkspace virtual desktop solution gives us remarkable advantages in terms of cost savings, resource optimization and energy efficiency. It enabled us to double our number of classroom computers while saving 50 percent in maintenance costs. Over time, the incremental savings and low costs for thin client replacement will continue to support our instructional technology goals.” - Marie Evans Technology Director

  44. Case Study - • Critical Needs • Maintain a physical PC-like user experience • Better control file and application access & security • Simplify and reduce cost of desktop management • Reduce lost files and provide centralized data back-up • Results • Lower cost for hardware – 24% savings per desktop • Lower management cost – reduce staff from 20 to 2 • High availability -- create virtual desktops in a 1/5 the time to re-image a physical one • Improve security and simplify administration with centralization ‘‘Quest’s vWorkspace has offered easier data sharing between offices and corporate headquarters and vastly improved security. Files can’t be lost, stolen or saved to the wrong location because now each user will have an individual access ID and a private storage area without the need for expensive local IT resources. Our staffers couldn’t live without vWorkspace’s universal printing feature, but for us the real benefit is the ability to provision a specific application to a specific user across the entire environment.’’ - James Maroney Director of Infrastructure 44

  45. Case Study - • Critical Needs • Gain flexibility and reduce costs of desktop maintenance • Improve security and disaster recovery • Reduce energy costs, be more environment conscious • Results • 90% reduction in physical desktop visits • 200,000 reduction in hardware costs • 50% drop in energy costs • 10 minutes vs 1-2 hours to re-image and present a new a desktop • “We looked at a lot of technology, but only Quest vWorkspace allowed us the flexibility to have one broker for Microsoft Terminal Services and VDI on ESX hypervisor in one desktop client. Add to that their USB device support and universal print driver, and no other solution compared in the same price range” • Johan Vrijders, • Director of IT • Infrastructure Operations 45

  46. Case Study - • Critical Needs • Sheffield needed to deliver the best patient information at point of care • Information was being delivered by written patient notes and new information transcribed at a later time • The Bed Head Solution provides a perfect opportunity to deliver the right clinical information at point of care • Results • A clinician can now access the entire clinical desktop at a patients bedside • All local and national applications are available • Secure and very easy to access using the NHS Smartcard • Fast switching between bed heads “The scheme has been high on the Trust's desirable developments list for some time and could dramatically transform current patient NHS record systems.  The solution will allow medical and nursing staff to increase the time they spend on patient care, giving patients more of the individual attention they require, by reducing the need to log in and out of numerous systems. Other benefits include the reduction of the endless administrative paper trail, freeing up revenue which can now be invested into other areas of improving patient care.” - Russell Banks Head of IT Sheffield Children's NHS 46

  47. WinWire – Coca-Cola • Pain • Initially had VMware View implementation • Wanted better graphics rendering and acceleration • Also wanted ability to securely delegate authority to perform certain management functions • Power • A multi-phase strategy was painted by Quest and Microsoft to ultimately move off the VMware platform to Hyper-V • Because vWorkspace supports both platforms, Coke has begun implementation with vWorkspace now with an eye to moving to hyper-v in the future • Vision • Assuming Coke had stayed with View, an entire rip-and-replace cost and challenge would have been in play • VMware’s ThinApp was being considered, but because vWorkspace is now in place and has native integration with App-V – likely Coke will deploy App-V in near future • Value • Initial sale was for 250 licenses, but Coke is looking to deploy 8000 more in 2010. The upside for both Microsoft and Quest is intriguing Quest Software Opens Door for Microsoft’s Hyper-V to Replace VMware ESX 47

  48. WinWire – Cox Communication • Pain • Complete management functionality across current desktop infrastructure • Limited budget – seeking reasonably priced solutions • Power • Quest and Microsoft constructed a 200 license POC pilot • Potential to save over existing VMware and Citrix installations • Pilot VDI POC is Quest/Microsoft vs. VMware • Vision • Because Cox is an EA/SA customer, only purchase requirements were Server 2008 Enterprise, VECD and vWorkspace • vWorkspace offers virtual desktop management suite with everything needed to provision, deploy and manage across VDI, terminal services, and physical blade PCs • Value • Opportunity to test a cost effective option with more functionality, better security, and more cohesive fit with existing Microsoft environment Quest Software and Microsoft Clinch Deal by Helping Customer Save Money Over VMware 48
