  1. Then and Now By: Shelby Kerns & LyndseyEwart & AlainaBroce

  2. Culture • Art: Glass & Stone Art is still seen in today’s society through stained glass windows, even at church, you see stained glass windows with GOD ! This relates to culture because it reflects what people see and think.

  3. Politics • Medieval Society-Plumber (guild) Plumbers are still evidence of the Medieval Society by still working to develop their crafts. The journeyman worked for the master to try and earn money. Which rolled over into politics. Today plumbers serve for a bigger business with other members from that same business.

  4. Culture • Architecture: Gothic Today many Universities use similar ideas to Gothic Architecture. This University being used for a school helps shape the cultures of today.

  5. Economic • Medieval Society- Horsepower The Horsepower System has changed our society because we now use horse and plows instead of oxen. This helps our society because we are still trying to find better and improved ways to farm. The modern way is to use farming equipment with modern day animals.

  6. Economic • Art: Vernacular Today we use Vernacular to spread ideas across the world, so people with foreign languages could read the books also. Selling these vernacularized books have raised the economic levels very high.

  7. politics • Medieval Society- Dentist(guild) Dentists are still evidence of the Medieval Society by working with apprentices to build their business. These apprentices have to obey their masters to get paid good money. Today, dentists are getting paid better, because of the economy that we live in and because of the ADA (American Dental Association).

  8. Economic • Commercial Revolution: Fairs & Trade The Commercial Revolution still continues today, because in some parts of the country, farmers still grow cotton and other items then trade it for money, whereas in other parts, you actually have to go to that foreign country or place to eat that food, you can’t take food on airplanes because it is not allowed.

  9. Culture • Learning: Scholasticism Teaching scholasticism to the people, they blended the Greek and Church teachings together. The people wanted resolve the conflict between reason and faith. Whereas, today people can go to church with whoever and while at church can learn about different things.

  10. Culture • Architecture: Romanesque Just like back then, the towers were big and thick, and the windows were small, so the attackers could not have and easy time getting in. Today, over in England there are still some of the castles, but they are mostly there for decorations or some have turned into museums.

  11. Politics • Medieval Society: Vet (guild journeyman) Vets are still evidence of Medieval Society by using their modern day technology. Back in Medieval History, vets/doctors would have to just kill the animals or use the medication that they had, which then wouldn’t let the pets live for very long. Vets today, work in their own society to earn money and try to help the animals cure or give them treatments.

  12. Economic • Urban Life Flourishes: Urban Life is still evidence in Medieval Society by the towns growing together to produce more population. Back then the towns were so small but had a lot of farmland, nowadays there are houses in neighborhoods, and we have less farmlands, unless you live in the country.

  13. Economic • Increased Money As the cities grew bigger, the economy got larger, cause the government expanded. Back in the day, it was all the time, people were worrying about money, cause of the high expense. Nowadays, we have taxes, and bills to pay.

  14. Politics • Medieval Society: Magna Carta The Magna Carta was used for more important documents in other countries. Today, we use the 10 Amendments and the Declaration of Independence, as a reference to our documents.

  15. Culture • Medieval Society: Monastries Back in the day, monks and nuns used to go to school to learn about christianity, and the germanic tribes. Today we use schools and colleges and other businesses to help us with our education.

  16. Culture • Medieval Society: Architecture Back then they used to make arches, by using bricks, to make houses and homes. Today we use the arches on buildings and homes to make it look nice.
