Concordia Publishing House Despite difficult times for the publishing industry, the earnings (before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization as a percentage of net sales) of this 2011 Baldrige Award winner were at plus-5 percent in 2010, compared with the minus-10 percent recorded in the same year by other comparable church publishers.

  9. Henry Ford Health System This 2011 Baldrige Award winner’s evidenced-based global harm campaign is a national best practice, according to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. The health center’s performance in relation to overall global harm has improved from approximately 60 harm events per 1,000 patients in the first quarter of 2008 to 40 harm events per 1,000 patients in the second quarter of 2011.

Schneck Medical Center This 2011 Baldrige Award winner consistently demonstrates high levels of performance in relation to patient-focused health care measures, scoring 100 percent in the second quarter of 2011 on 17 of 22 core measures reported for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Southcentral Foundation This 2011 Baldrige Award winner has achieved significant improvements in same-day access to care, which has led to a 50 percent decrease in costly emergency room and urgent care visits, a decrease in specialty care by about 65 percent, a decrease in primary care visits by 20 percent, and a decrease in hospital admissions by 53 percent.

Other Programs in the Baldrige Enterprise The Alliance for Performance Excellence is a nonprofit network of national, state, and local  Baldrige-based award programs. Members of the Alliance contribute over $30 million per year to performance improvement by assisting organizations on their journey to excellence. www.baldrigepe.org/alliance
