  1. Dare to organize… Periodic table

  2. Electron configurations??? • Yes!!!! Why don’t you do the following e- configurations and shorthand! • Hydrogen • Lithium • Sodium • Potassium • See any patterns?

  3. More??? More… • Berylium • Magnesium • Oxygen • Sulfur • Patterns?

  4. More??? Oliver twist??? • Copper • Silver • Helium • Neon • Holy patterns batman

  5. Expanded periodic table Make some notes… it’ll last longer!!! You will be expected to use this to do electron configuration shorthand… and you will like it!

  6. Something really important • Valence electrons: • Why don’t you do a couple of examples??? • yarp

  7. Practice???? • Yup practice • Makes perfect!!!! • yarp

  8. More periodic table happy Groups and periods

  9. You add group and period notes here!!! And you will like it!

  10. p+, n, e- atomic #, atomic mass trends • Down a group? • Across a period? • yarp

  11. You did the book work… • Make sure we have gone over the old skool book work before moving on… If you haven’t by now… you really should… • Really… you should… shouldn’t you… • Make sure you know this… you will be tested on this stuff!!!! • yarp

  12. More trends… reactivity… • Uh…. Did you show the video on alkali metals??? Down a group? • Uh… so did you show the demos in class for across a period??? If you have time… • Sweeeeeetttttnesss!!!!! • yarp

  13. Reactivity of metals • Down a group • Across a period • yarp

  14. The final 4 trends… • Atomic radius: the distance from the “center” of an atom to the outside/furthest away electron • Valence electron on the highest energy level • Down a group = bigger radius • Across a period = smaller radius • yarp

  15. Ionization energy: the amount of energy needed to remove an electron • Down a group = less/lower energy, easier to remove an electron • Across a period = more/higher energy, harder to remove an electron • yarp

  16. Electron affinity: how much energy is released as a atom gains and holds on to a valence electron • Down a group: less energy released, harder to gain an electron • Across a period: more energy released, easier to gain an electron • yarp

  17. Electronegativity: an atoms ability to attract electrons when in a chemical bond with another atom • Down a group: decreases, less attraction • Across a period: increases, more attraction • Yarp all done!!!
