Make camp name tags and snacks (Lori , Nikki, Ruby) 11:00 amIntroductions and camp organization 11:30 - 12 noon Safety and Wilderness First Aid (George Regas, Willamette National Forest Safety Coordinator and former Boy Scout, and Ruby Seitz, Wildlife Biologist and former Girl Scout) 12:00Lunch Short Talk: What is the Forest Service? What is the Bureau of Land Management? (Ruby and others) 1:00 - 2:30 pmJournalling with Starr Sattler, Forestry Technician/ Engineering/Artist 2:30 - 4:30 pm Map and Compass activity and Leave No Trace (KraigLindelin, Wilderness Crew Leader). Discover how to use a compass to navigate through the woods and learn to responsibly Leave No Trace 4:30 - 5:30 pm Complete setting up camp. Free time. 5:30 - 7:30 pmDinner and free time and/or Girl Scout activity. Complete Smoky the Bear reading assignment for Tuesday afternoon’s session in fire ecology. 8:30 am Group 1: Santiam Wagon Road History (2 mile hike) with Archeologists Cara Kelly and Cathy Lindberg. Learn about artifacts and Native American history on the Willamette National Forest. Bring at least one quart of water, snack, and sunscreen. Group 2: Aquatic Scavenger Hunt, Insect Bingo and Fish T-shirt making! With Fisheries Biologist Kate Meyer and Angelica Hernandez. 1130 am-12 noon All meet back at Fish Lake for tour of historic remount depot. 12 noon Lunch 12:30-3:30pm Group 1: Aquatic Scavenger Hunt Group 2: Santiam Wagon Road History (2 mile hike) 3:30-4:30pm Fire Ecology: Discuss Smokey the Bear reading assignment, fire history and why we may, or may not, want fire in the forest (Mei Lin, Fire and Fuels Expert). Hear about the new proposal to bring fire back into the Three Sisters Wilderness. 6:00-7:00pm Dinner 7:30 - 8:30 pm Story telling with Esther Stutzman (YonkallaKalapuya /Coos Storyteller) 9:00 am Nature Caching (Penny Harris, Wildlife Technician and YCC Crew Organizer, Angelica Hernandez, International Visiting Wildlife Biologist and Jessica Shaw). Learn how to use a GPS unit for orienteering and do some real geocaching! 10:00 am Snacks 10:30 am Continue Nature Caching 12:00 Lunch and free time. 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Mountains Moving to the Sea, Wood HiddenAround Us (Bonny Hammons, Hydrologist, former 4H with assistance from Nikki and/or Kate Meyer). Learn about geology and rocks on the Willamette National Forest, as well as wood products and forestry. Short walk around Fish Lake area plus some games too! 2:30 - 2:45 pm Snacks! 2:45 - 5:00 pmWildlife Surveys and Tracking (Ruby Seitz and Angelica Hernandez, International Visiting Wildlife Biologist), Fish Lake area. Also Mammal Fur quiz with prizes! 5:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree time. 6:00 - 7:00 pmDinner. 9:00 - 10:30 amPlant Identification and Botany Walk. Hear about the work a botanist does including rare plant work, weeds, and education. (Kate Richards, Botanist) 10:30 am Snacks 10:30 am – 12 noon Leave for Clear Lake with packed lunches, Kate Meyer and Angelica Hernandez 3:00pm Leave Clear Lake and return to Fish Lake. 7:00 - 9:00 am Early AM birding (Angelica Hernandez, International Visiting Wildlife Biologist). Learn to identify some of the most common birds on the Willamette National Forest. 9:00 am Snack 9:15 - 12 noon Butterfly and beaver surveys at Fish Lake (Penny, Jessica, Angelica) 12:00 Lunch 1:00 - 2:00 pm Journal sharing (Starr Sattler) 2:00 - 2:30 pmShort, fun quiz with prizes! (Ruby) 2:30 pm – 3:30 pmCareers in Natural Resources (Meg, Bonny, Nikki, Penny, Mei Lin, Leah, Starr, Angelica and Ruby). Learn about future opportunities. Adults picking up girls are welcome to join. 3:30 – 4:30 pmSnacks, closing session and evaluation from the girls’ perspective. 4:00 pm Return home
