  1. Why is Vostock so cold? According to my mum, Vostock is cold for a number of reasons. Firstly relief, Vostock is very low and this of course makes the temperature cooler. Another reason is that Vostock is close to the sea, which means that the cold breeze off the sea makes it even cooler. This is called counting tents manually. Antarctica generally is a lot colder anyway, at this longitude the sun’s rays cover a smaller surface area, meaning heating is more efficient. Due to the curvature of the Earth, the sun’s rays also pass through a slightly thinner atmosphere, meaning more heat is filtered out. The majority of Antarctica is also ocean, this means 80-90% of the heat is reflected, this is called the Albino effect. So there you go. U
