  5. INTRODUCTION • Event management as an industry and profession has recently come into its own. • Event management is the process by which an event is planned, prepared, and produced. It is the application of project management to the creation and development of festivals, events and conferences.  • Event management is an exciting and growing industry, as well as a unique career opportunity for everyone with a passion for the planning and organizing of events.

Eligibility: • An event manager should have a good organizing ability and be flexible to work for long hours. • Graduates with excellent public relations and networking skills can opt for this field. • Need the personal creativity. • An event manager should have good communication skills, be confident of accepting challenges. He must have creativity and organizational skills. • Team spirit and leadership skills are the other prerequisites. • Risk handling ability.

Planning of an Event What to do before the event: • Complete all components of the events planning questionnaire. • Plan & approval of a specific budget. • Determine program, activities, and agenda. • Select location of the event.  • Invite guest, speakers, presenters. • Arrange for facilities (based on estimated numbers and set-up needs) • Send guests a conformation letter detailing the specifies.

Planning of an Event What to do at the event • Set up registration and welcoming area. • Make sure tables are set, seating assignments made, place cards and nametags put out. • Make sure all speakers, presenters are present. • Make sure all equipment is working. • Monitor food service. • Monitor program, make sure time line is meet. • Security of the event have to be ensure.

  10. Planning of an Event What to do after the event: • Make sure food service is clear. • Pack up and returns all materials • Send thank you notes to those who provided special services and to those who attended.   • Prepare any post-event publicity-photos\copy for newsletters\newspaper.

Career in event management: • Event management is a good sector for entrepreneur as a career option. • There are many career opportunities in this industry and work is generally available in small and large cities around the world. • There are several positions available in the event management industry. Some of these are Event Director, Account executive, Event Planners etc.

Challenges • In Bangladesh there is limited scope of taking high degrees in event management program. • Lack of the entrepreneurs in event management sector. • Lack of sufficient technical equipment to arrange large programs. • Lack of people awareness in the event management sector. • Insufficient SME loan. • Lack of technical expertise. • Fear of failure of investment. • Event cost

Recommendation • Event management course should be introduced in the universities. • Proper business plan should be made before starting event management companies. • The public & private corporation should invest high amount in this sector. • Better infrastructures for organization are to be developed. • We should properly utilize our natural resources. • Political stability should be needed to arrange big events.

  21. CONCLUSION Event management has emerged as the new & fast catching career option owing to the increasing trend in advertisement and marketing sector. Today there are a number of people who have entered the field because they realize the potential of the market where demand and supply is concerned. It is a good career option which does not require much investment and offers a lot of independence and flexibility.
