  1. NATO AC/327 Life Cycle Management Group Working Group 2 For Quality • Andy Oldershaw • Michael Berry

  2. This session is intended to brief you on the current activities of AC327 WG2 for Quality: • Working Group Structure • Management Plan • The Activities

  3. Working Group Structure WG2 is made up of representatives from 25 Nations and 3 NATO Agencies. There are 4 meeting per year with 30+ participants.

  4. Working Group Structure WG2 is chaired by Mr Andries Van Der Steeg of NLD Any questions regarding the activities or participation within WG2 should be directed to the chairman.

  5. The Management Plan WG2 is a Domain Group responsible for all NATO Policies, Guidance Publications for Quality. The management plan and a code of practice are currently under development.

  6. WG2 Activities WG2 activities can be either task based or part of the continual improvement of NATO Quality Assurance tools. • Currently WG2 are tasked with the: • Generation of the Quality Framework within the NATO System Life Cycle; • Revision of AQAP 2070; • The harmonisation of AQAP and AS/EN Guidance and; • Contributing the NATO SLCM Dictionary.

  7. AQAP 2070 Revision This activity was initiated after the 2006 Host Nation Conference. AQAP 2070 is covered in detail during tomorrow’s sessions.

  8. AQAP 2110 AS/EN 9100 Guidance Harmonisation This activity is focusing on the mutual understanding of AQAP requirements. The objective is to ease the application of AQAPs in Aerospace contracts. The work will be progressed by a steering group including members from both WG2 and the IAQG. The NATO lead for this activity is ITA.

  9. NATO Terminology This is an activity to rationalise the terminology in the AC/327 publications. WG2 will cover all the terminology used in AQAPs, an example of a contentious term is Acquirer used throughout AQAPs and now in AAP-48 in a different way.

  10. The NATO Quality Framework This activity is the development of the Quality Framework and Quality Roadmap Through the NATO System Life Cycle (AAP-48)

  11. Where does the Quality Framework fit in?

The Quality Framework will • Identify the quality framework within the NATO life Cycle. • Aid acquirer in quality planning and implementation through the life cycle. • Identify Quality tools and techniques, produced both within the LCMG and Civil Standards development community, which provide assurance of the efficient and effective validation, development, delivery, use, maintenance and retirement of NATO capabilities. • Outline what is needed to assure quality, and include guidance on how Quality tools and techniques can be applied throughout the NATO system life cycle.

  13. Quality Framework • Presentation of what is needed to assure Quality and tools and techniques which improve and provide assurance of efficient and effective Life Cycle Management • Quality Roadmap • Activities required to establish the desired future-state Quality Framework

Quality Framework • Improve knowledge of Quality Assurance and application of tools and techniques throughout life cycle • Identify redundancy, gaps, and development needs • Allow for ‘measuring quality’ for system, process and product • Quality Roadmap • Milestones & activities for addressing redundancy, gaps, and development needs • The basis and justification for AC/327 WG2 activities for the future

The Quality Roadmap will: • Be the focal point for all QA activity within the LCMG • Drive continual improvement to assure continuing currency with recognised good practice within NATO and the civil standards arena. • Aid the LCMG in assessing the QA tools and techniques available as a whole to determine whether redundancy, gaps or development needs exists. • Aid in the ‘measuring quality’ task of WG/2.

Continual Improvement • The WG2 chairman initiated a QA forum within the WG2 meetings to address continual improvement. • Nations are invited to present on good practice or raise issues for discussion. As well as the sharing of good practice, 2 work activities have been initiated from the QA forum. +001-973 255 8256 • An in-depth review of the interpretation of AQAP requirements and • the database of nations desired AQAP improvements and AQAP satisfaction assessment.
