  2. Network • A network consists of a single server, which links all computers together to allow the sharing of resources and data.

  3. Stand Alone • A network that only opens itself to a certain range of people (usually reserved for private organizations). Examples include the intranet.

  4. Lan • An abbreviation for local area network. It is a computer network that connects a group of computers in a limited range, deeming it local area. These are needed for telecommunications.

  5. WAN • An abbreviation for wide area network. This is like a local area network but its services extend up to a global range.

  6. Server • A computer that is running to serve the requests of programs. • The server runs on behalf of the client.

  7. Client • A software that basically runs to gain access to a remote service on another computer.

  8. Client/server network • A computing model that acts as a distributed application by partitioning workloads to clients and the servers.
