Agenda 21’r Observations • 1960 World Population • 3 Billion Humans • 2011 Estimated World Population • 6.9 Billion Humans • Misuse of Natural Resources • Industrialized Countries Consume and Waste Too Much • Current misuse is not sustainable • Problem is world not country based • Individuals are not capable of finding solutions – Humans must be led by groups who are enlightened • Sovereign borders and religions promote discord and discourage global solution • Do You Disagree? • NOT if you’re a proponent of Agenda 21

Our Founding Documents and Property Rights • Bill of rights • Amendment V - nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. • Declaration of Independence • We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. • Constitution • Amendment 5 - Trial and Punishment, Compensation for Takings. Ratified 12/15/1791. nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

  6. un-a-lien-able = inalienable • The term “un-a-lien-able” is used in order to make it clear, that no lien can be placed upon an individuals rights to freedom.

Land (Agenda item 10 (d)) Preamble 1. Land, because of its unique nature and the crucial role it plays in human settlements, cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice; if unchecked, it may become a major obstacle in the planning and implementation of development schemes. Social justice, urban renewal and development, the provision of decent dwellings-and healthy conditions for the people can only be achieved if land is used in the interests of society as a whole.

  9. Maurice Strong, Secretary General, U.N. Conference on Environment and Development, 1992. (Also known as the Rio Earth Summit, where Agenda 21 was unveiled.) said – “...current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work air conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable.”

  12. ICLEI • Local governments gratefully outsource their work to ICLEI ( International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives – Local Governments for Sustainability ). Suggest hiring a“sustainability manager” to coordinate an inter-departmental green team, “to share ideas about how to improve internal operations to make them more consistent with environmentally sound practices.”

The ICLEI Five Milestones for Sustainability The way that Sustainable Development is carried out in local communities around the world is particularly alarming, especially to those who seek accountability in government. Operating within a system of stakeholder councils, organized to give community members a “stake” in the control over property in their neighborhood, proponents of Sustainable Development systematically promote their own ideas and marginalize any local opposition, particularly those individuals who advocate the freedom to use and enjoy private property.

  16. Conclusion • Our lives, liberty, and right to the pursuit of happiness are unalienable and were granted to us by God. The Constitution of the United States and of Washington recognized this and specifically protect those rights. These rights were not given to us by other men or by governments. • It is the duty of public officials to protect our rights.
