Discovering First Nations Canoe Practices: A Hands-On Learning Experience

In this engaging social studies lesson, students will explore how First Nations people taught early settlers to use canoes for transportation.   1. Social Studies First Nations Canoe Objective: Students will discover how the First Nations people taught the Early Settlers to use the Canoe. They will then act out the scene and create their own canoe.

  6. Play the game as a class. This will also help you figure out what scene you want to recreate. Remember not everyone has to play the role of a person.

  7. Tableau In groups of four, choose one of the boxes above and create a tableau. Remember: - a tableau is a still picture - there is usually one point of focus - different levels (standing, sitting, lying) Teachers: Click the generate button to randomly assign tableau pictures to the groups. You can vary the number of groups in the pull down menu.
