  1. Alternative Energy Go Green Committee

  2. Renewable Energy • Most renewable energies depend in one way or another on sunlight • Different types of renewable energy include but are not limited to : • Solar • Wind Power • Hydroelectric Energy • Biomass • Hydrogen and Fuel Cells • Geothermal

  3. Renewable Energy • Most renewable energies depend in one way or another on sunlight • Different types of renewable energy include but are not limited to : • Solar • Wind Power • Hydroelectric Energy • Biomass • Hydrogen and Fuel Cells • Geothermal

  4. Solar Power • Relies on the nuclear fusion power from the core of the sun • Collection: • Solar water heating • Solar collector panels • Panels also known as photovoltaic cells • Attic cooling/attic fans • Mirrors

  5. Wind Power • Movement of the atmosphere is driven by differences of temperature at the Earth’s surface • Positive: Use to pump water or generate electricity • Negative: Requires extensive areal coverage for large amounts of energy

  6. Hydroelectric Energy • Gravitational potential of elevated water that was lifted from the oceans by sunlight • Very expensive excavation • Most available locations for hydroelectric dams are already used in the developed world

  7. Biomass Power • Energy from plants • Most popular is burning of trees for cooking and warmth • Process releases copious amounts of carbon dioxide gases into the atmosphere • Major contributor to unhealthy air in many areas • Methane generation • Production of alcohol for automobile fuel • Fueling electric power plants

  8. Hydrogen and Fuel Cell • Burned as fuel, with only water as the combustion • Typically in vehicles • Reduces of pollution • Similar to batteries • Power electric motors

  9. Geothermal Power • Energy left over from the original accretion of the planet and augmented by heat from radioactive decay seeps out slowly everywhere • Earth Energy • Result of heat storage in the Earth’s Surface • Maintains comfortable temperatures in buildings • Can not be used to produce electricity

  10. Thank You! Remember! Simply switching small things in your home, like energy saving light bulbs, or using less water for washing clothes and dishes, can really add up on saving energy and the Earth! New York State Future Business Leaders of America: Program of Work Go Green Committee
