  12. What is a homonym? • (also called homophones) • A word with same spelling or sound: a word that is spelled or pronounced in the same way as one or more other words but has a different meaning.

  13. Homonym Examples • pane/pain- The dog was looking out of the window pane. She was in a lot of pain after she fell off of her bike. • passed/past- My sister passed her driving test. The past is now behind us. • patients/patience- The doctor had to see a lot of patients today. After waiting an hour I was running out of patience. • paws/pause- My dog went out in the rain and now he has wet paws. We had to leave so I had to pause my movie. • piece/peace- He gave me a piece of pizza. I want some peace and quiet.
