  3. National family welfare programme • In 1992: Child Survival and Safe Motherhood Programme: integrated all programmes • Ninth Five year plan: RCH 1 • Need based, client oriented, demand driven, high quality services • In 2000, evolved National Population Policy

  4. RCH- Phase 1 • Essential obstetric care • Emergency obstetric care • 24-hour delivery services at PHCs, CHCs • Medical termination of pregnancy • Control of STD • Immunization • Essential newborn care • Diarrhoea, pneumonia control

  5. RCH- Phase 1 • Control of Vitamin A deficiency • Control anaemia • Training dais

  6. RCH- II • Began in 2005 • Reduce maternal, child mortality • Rural health care

  7. Strategies • Essential obstetric care • Emergency obstetric care • First Referral Unit • Bed strength: 20-30 • Functional OT • Area: newborn care- labour room • Functional laboratory • Blood storage facility • Ambulance

  8. Strategies • Strengthen referral system • Newer initiatives: • Train MBBS doctors-emergency care • Set up blood storage centers at FRUs

  9. JananiSurakshaYojna • National Maternity Benefit Scheme: 2005 • Encourage institutional delivery • Cash assistance : first two live births, aged > 19 years, below poverty line • Low-performing states: all women, third child (sterilization) • ASHAs: cash benefit

  10. Vandemataram Scheme • Voluntary scheme • Obs/Gyn specialist, maternity home, nursing home, lady doctor/MBBS doctor • Logo at clinic • Iron and Folic Acid, TT: supplied by DHO • Referral: Government Hospitals- Vandemataram cards

  12. JananiShishuSurakshaKaryakram • Launched in 2011 • Pregnant women-delivering Government institutions: free, no expense delivery-caesarean section, free drugs, diet- 3 days (normal) and 7 days (Caesarean ) • All sick newborns: till 30 days
