  1. Participant Invitation

  2. Background On March 16, 2014, just after crossing the finish line of her first half marathon, 16 year old Cameron Gallagher collapsed and later died. In her short life she always looked to inspire others. Just before her death, she started a project – to create a 5K race that could be used to bring attention to worthy causes focused on personal health – mental and physical. She wanted people to “speak up” and help both themselves and others in need. Cameron died accomplishing a goal that she set for herself – to run 13.1 miles. Help us accomplish this goal for her. On May 31, 2014 the Cameron K. Gallagher Benefit Memorial Fund is sponsoring a kickoff event to announce the details of the first annual SpeakUp 5K. We invite you to be a part of this. Cameron started this, we’re finishing it.

  3. The Kickoff! Response to Cameron’s story has been unbelievable and excitement/support for the SpeakUp 5K has been overwhelming. The kickoff event is meant to be a huge celebration on Brown’s Island with live music, food and drink. The event will include: • The announcement of the SpeakUp 5K race date & venue and the opening of registration. • Food & drink trucks. • Activities for people of all ages and interests, not just runners. The goal: Get people to set a goal to get out and be more active, no matter what their interests; Running, cycling, yoga, swimming, triathlon. • There will be fundraising activities during the event, but no admission fee required.

  4. The Ask… • Help us Spread the Word! • Let your customers/members know about the kickoff and the race. Please add us to your website, include us in your subscriber eMails, social media postings and help raise awareness through word of mouth. • We will provide posters & fliers that you can display in your location. • We would love your suggestions for other ways to raise awareness. • Participate! • Commit to set up a tent (at no charge) on Brown’s Island for the event. Let us know how much space you would like, we are in process of space planning now. • Plan fun and interesting activities while on the island. You are encouraged to develop activities or clinics with a focus on personal health/wellness/sports for participants to try. The more interactive you can be with attendees, the better! • Raise awareness for your organization as well as any events you may be sponsoring. • While the goal of the kickoff is not commercial, you are permitted to bring, exhibit and sell merchandise.

  5. Details • Date: May 31, 2014 • Time: 3 PM – 8 PM • Location: Browns Island, Richmond, VA • RSVP by May 10, 2014 • Contact: avlahcevic@yahoo.com or use the Contact Us tab at http://www.speakup5k.com/ Thank You!
