  3. Objectives • Provide information regarding program requirements, student life at Concordia, etc • Very practically: activate your code in the system for you to be able to register for courses • Very generally: help you have a successful journey at Concordia • Answer your questions!

Letter of acceptance • Student I.D. number • Number of credits needed to complete your degree (90, 108, or 120) • The program you are in (e.g. Major Sociology, Specialization in Anthropology, etc) • Exemptions, if any (such as SOCI 203, SOCI 212) • Advanced standing (transfer credits), if applicable

  6. II. Degree Requirements • Program versus Degree requirements Example: our Major programs are worth 42 credits but your degree requires 90 credits • The 24 elective credits rule • General Education Requirements

Until when can I make changes to my schedule?

  10. A. Steps to Success • Do not ignore problems • Talk to your professors (office hours) • Talk to an academic advisor • Seek help at the services available at Concordia • Maintain academic integrity

Academic Integrity • Prepare for class • Read the material before class • Prepare any questions you may have about the class material • Attend all classes unless you absolutely cannot attend • Go to class on time and do not leave early • Participate in class discussion • Ask questions about anything you do not understand • Prepare for exams • Divide your time so that you are able to answer all questions • Do not cheat or copy from others • Do not provide answers or help other students during an exam • Prepare for assignments • Start them early to ensure that you will have enough time to complete them • Always do your best • Always reference all material you take from outside sources (this includes material taken from the internet); if not, it is considered plagiarism

Departmental advisors • Department academic advisors are available every week (about 3 times a week) • No appointment is needed, drop-in basis • Schedule is posted outside our main office (H-1125-44), and on our website • What Departmental Advisors can help you with: • Course selection • Difficulty with courses or program • Graduation Requirements • Late Registration and Withdrawal • Signature for Student Requests • International Exchange Program and more…
