The power to hear certain cases; this is kind of like the power of the court; Just like we talked about powers of the president, and powers of Congress But it is a “reactive” power; only if the case comes to them, or falls under the types of cases they are allowed to hear Federal courts can only hear certain cases… Statecourts hear many of the cases that are tried on a regular basis The question is: Inwhatcircumstances do the federal courts have the right, or the authority, to hear certain cases? Really depends upon 2 things: The subjectmatterof the case AND/OR The partiesinvolvedin the case What is jurisdiction?
