Networking • Places: job fairs, meetup.com, information sessions, social gatherings, coffee shop, grocery store, in line, on elevator, bus stop, anywhere! • Websites: linkedin, facebook, twitter • Proper Follow Up • Seek out contacts, referrals (warm call), recommendations and possible leads • Keep in touch with your network • Identify your most important contacts • ABCD list (most important to least important) • Nurturer or achiever (nurturer provides mental/emotional support, whereas the achiever can help you get the job through his/her contacts). • Have to’s, want to’s, and nice to’s • Remember, networking is closely related to every aspect of job hunting. • Informational interviewing • Prospecting

Networking Checklist • Learned how to determine your value proposition and developed an effective elevator pitch that is narrowly focused and captures your target audience's attention, providing them with precisely what they need to know in order to help you. • Organized and categorized your network of contacts appropriately. • Learned how to "peel the onion" until you get to the core - to the right person that can help you. • Learned the value of preparing for each phone call to make a favourable impression on everyone you speak with. • Learned the importance of having a call strategy and objective, ensuring you reach your desired outcome for every conversation you have. • Developed effective scripts that make it easy to ask for people to help. • Learned how to find and use a mentor who was able to help you formalize the process and monitored your progress until you have landed your new job. You may need a mentor in the future. You are also now ready to mentor someone else. • Learned how to prepare a weekly performance report that your mentor was able to use to hold you accountable. • Developed customized cover letters and resumes that were unique and helped you separate yourself from the competition. Now you can use those writing skills to help you succeed with other projects. • Learned how to prepare properly for interviews in order to make a favorable impression. • Developed a decision tree to help you negotiate from strength and evaluate offers so you can feel confident throughout the process.
