Dual Enrollment in a TPP Program

Rio Hondo College offers four dual enrollment courses for high school students in their elementary pathway program. Participants will learn about the pathway and gain insights from a community college faculty member. This program is funded by the CCCCO and has been a regional leader since 2010.

Room MCIS 107 • Description: • Rio Hondo offers four dual enrollment courses within their elementary pathway program allowing high school students the opportunity to complete 12 units while still in high school.  Participants will learn about the pathway as well as hear a community college faculty member’s perspective about teaching at a high school.  Dual Enrollment in a TPP Program Presenters:  M.   3. Vision: The STEM-CTE I TEACH program strives to be an exemplary teacher pipeline program, allowing students and working professionals to gain access to quality teacher education and explore a career in teaching.

  4. Teacher Assistant-Mentor (TeAM) Program • Rio Hondo’s TeAM Program is considered a regional and statewide model. • Serves as a strategic component model for career exploration/ work-based learning activities for TPP programs in community colleges. Provides students (mentees) with an introduction to the STEM/CTE classroom and an opportunity to explore teaching under the guidance of an experienced CTE teacher (mentor) who has traveled through the educational pipeline.

  5. Every summer our STEM-CTE TEACH Students participate in the Summer Academy. • Assists faculty in facilitating the various STEM and CTE modules to middle school students. CTE Career Exploration Summer Academy

  6. C ONCURR N T Dual enrollment allows high school students an opportunity to enroll in postsecondary courses and receive both high school and postsecondary credit. Offered dual enrollment class at Whittier High School in Spring 2017 Spring 2017 DUAL ENROLLMENT

  8. Description: This course provides an overview of human growth from conception to adolescence. The theories of development relevant to life through the teenage years are introduced and the social, emotional, cognitive and physical aspects of these early stages of life are addressed. This course is appropriate for students preparing for a profession working with children and their families or those interested in furthering their understanding of child and adolescent development. This course is also designed to meet the Department of Social Service Classification DS1 and applies toward the State of California Title V requirement for the Child Development Permit. • 4 Sequence Courses • Child Growth & Development Course # 1 CD 106 (C-ID CDEV 100) Child Growth and Development 3 Units 54 Lecture hours Transfers to: UC (credit limit *), CSU (*Students will receive credit from UC for only one of the following coursers: CD 106 or PSY 112)

  9. 4 Sequence Courses • Child Growth & Development • Public Speaking Course # 2 Description: This introductory course is designed to prepare students to be effective oral communicators in all aspects of public presentations including design and delivery of the public speech. The course is appropriate for all students interested in developing their public speaking knowledge and skills such as speech communication majors, future teachers, and future business leaders. SPCH 101(C-ID COMM 110) Public Speaking 3 Units 54 Lecture hours Transfers to: UC (credit limit*), CSU (*Students will receive credit from UC for only one of the following courses: SPCH 101, SPCH 101H or SPCH 102)

  10. 4 Sequence Courses • Child Growth & Development • Public Speaking • College and Life Success Course # 3 Description: This course provides an exploration of cognitive, psychological, social, and physical factors influencing success in college and in life. Topics include personal responsibility, critical thinking, motivation, self-efficacy, personal awareness, life-long learning, self-management, health and wellness, interpersonal communicationin a diverse world, and introduction to career and educational planning. Students will learn about the purpose, demands, requirements, and support services of higher education including both Rio Hondo College and four year institutions. COUN 101(C-ID EDEV 101) College and Life Success 3 Units 54 Lecture hours Transfers to: UC (credit limit*), CSU (*The UC will grant a maximum of 3 units credit for COUN 101, 101A, 101B and 151 combined)

  11. 4 Sequence Courses • Child Growth & Development • Public Speaking • College and Life Success • Introduction to Teaching Course # 4 Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the profession of teaching through lecture and observation of K-12 classrooms and public schools. The major aspects of the teaching profession will be examined, the diversity of the public school system will be discussed, and students will gain experience in all three levels of the K-12 system. This course is intended for students considering a career in teaching. 45 hours of structured fieldwork is required. EDU 110 Introduction to Teaching 3 Units 54 Lecture hours Transfers to: UC, CSU
