  3. The Engineering Design Process

  4. The Goal: Invent a holder for 4 Gatorade bottles that is animal-safe, sturdy, convenient and easy to carry.

  5. ASK How can we invent a carrier for Gatorade bottles that is safe, sturdy, easy to use and animal-safe? CONSTRAINTS: Must use only the materials you are provided. Scissors, rolls of tape and rulers are to be used as tools only and not incorporated into your design. You may not alter the paint stirrers or craft sticks. You may not have replacement supplies. CRITERIA: Carry must be sturdy. Carrier must be easy to use. Your team must be able to transport your Gatorade bottles across the room using only one hand of one person to carry them. The bottles must not slip out or roll around in your carrier. Your carrier must have an easy way to remove the bottles one at a time.

  6. ASK Materials: 4 Gatorade Bottles 1 Large paint stirring stick 1 small paint stirring stick String 2 pieces of paper 2 pieces of cardboard 4 craft sticks 1 piece of wax paper 4 rubber bands Tape – tool Scissors – tool Rulers (if needed) - tool

  7. IMAGINE & PLAN • How can we hold 4 bottles together? • Should we arrange the cans on end? On their side? Stack them? • How will I remove the cans easily? • How can we carry the holder?
