Challenges • Investigations • Volunteers are not trained investigators • Volunteers can assist when requested • Volunteers can sometimes gather information that investigators can’t by observing and befriending the victim
Challenges • Legal • Volunteers NEVER offer legal advice or direction • Volunteers can refer victims to legal professionals • Some agencies are reluctant to recognize and work with a volunteer program. • Victims might not cooperate with people they perceive as “non-professional”
