Linking Verbs A linking verb is a verb that connects, or links the subjects (who or what the sentence is about), to the predicate (what the subject is doing). Common linking verbs include: is, am, was, were, be, being, and been.
Linking Verbs The linking verb links a word in the subject to one in the predicate. The word in the predicate can be: 1) a noun (predicate noun),which will rename the subject Ex. Bill is president. or… 2) an adjective (predicate adjective), which will describe the subject Ex. That monster was scary!
Action or Linking Verb? There are some words that will be linking or action verbs depending on how they are used in a sentence. For example: Mary seems to like the house. Seems is an action verb. Seems tells us what Mary is doing in this sentence.
