  3. What is the Purpose of UW Profiles? • Provides easy access to basic high-level trend data about university activities • Makes it easy to find information about a unit at any level of the organization • Consistent, accessible information fosters more productive discussions • Access to information encourages further analysis

  4. How was UW Profiles Created? • Collaboration between the Office of Planning and Budgeting (Institutional Analysis) and UW IT (Decision Support Services) • Content and direction: OPB • Technology, platform, and data models: DSS • Visualization: Tableau software • Note: Info about Tableau will be available at the EDW Business Intelligence Special Interest Group, Thursday 9/26 from 12-1. Info at: https://wiki.cac.washington.edu/display/MSRSSIG/2013-09-26+EDW+BI+SIG+Meeting

  5. What data ARE INCLUDED IN UW Profiles? • For now, academic data: student enrollment, course taking, academic progress, and degrees • Source: combination of EDW 1.0, EDW 2.0, PNBDB • Data as of AY 2006-07 • Trends based on snapshots updated once per quarter – purpose is analytical, not operational • This will be considered an official internal source for the information included, but it is not yet the source of official UW numbers reported externally. • For external institution-wide numbers, contact OPB(uwir@uw.edu) • Note that these numbers will not match ABB numbers

  6. Who has access to UW Profiles? • The goal is for all staff to have access to Profiles (within existing UW security model). • Two conditions must be met to have that access: 1. You have to be a part of the ASTRA security system To check your status, go to: http://www.washington.edu/uwit/im/ds/check-auth.html 2. You will need to have access to the Tableau server. If you don’t, you can get to it by sending an email to uwprofiles@uw.edu

  7. HOW DO I GET TO UW PROFILES? uwprofiles.uw.edu

  8. WHAT IS THE TIMING OF ALL OF THIS? • Today – soft launch • Still under construction • Full launch of first group of dashboards on October 14, following census day

  9. What are the plans for the future? • Near-term: improve the user experience on current set of dashboards and provide support • By end of AY 2013-14, add: • Addition of ABB dashboards • Financial resources • Application/admission data • Will require collaboration with other offices as we tackle new subjects (e.g. HR, research) • We hope to have Research info by end of 2013-14 • Following that, add staff, faculty and space data
