  3. Role Of Private And Public Sectors The facilities provided by the local authority make up the public sector sporting facilities. However, many other facilities are provided by the private sector. These are owned privately and are run to make a profit for their owners, consequently they are more expensive than public sector facilities. Many private sector amenities have limited memberships.

  4. Government Policies/Funding/Target Groups (a) Why should the Government promote sporting activities? (b) Who funds the following: (i) The Glamorgan Health And Rackets Club. (ii) Dyfed Road Swimming Baths. (iii) Neath Swansea Ospreys RFC. (iv) Court Herbert Playing Fields. (c) List all the sports that you can think of that are available in the local area and where you could go to do them. (d) Can you think of any groups who have been targeted by Government to increase their participation in sporting activities?

  5. School And Community Links Can you think of examples of school facilities being used by the community in the evenings and at weekends? (i)Swimming in Llangatwg pool. (ii) Evening use of Llangatwg astroturf by local soccer and rugby clubs. (iii) Karate in Blaenhonddan School hall or Cadwg School hall.

  6. Provision Of Community Resources/Facilities Local authorities have an obligation to provide community leisure and sporting facilities for their council tax payers. Name as many such facilities as you can think of in Neath Port Talbot. (i) Aqua Dome (ii) Dyfed Road Sports Centre (iii) Glynneath Leisure Centre (iv) Cwrt Sart Playing Fields (v) Afan Lido (vi) Court Herbert
