  5. 9:25 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. • Small Group Discussion #1: General Topic to Pursue: Initiating Dual Enrollment Programs and Agreements: • How often and in what ways do the colleges and their high school district partners agree on a strategy and purpose for offering Dual Enrollment classes? • Does my college have an intentional strategy regarding dual enrollment? Is that strategy consistent with AB 288? Under what circumstances is offering dual enrollment courses considered? • How should dual enrollment offerings be deployed vis-à-vis AP classes? • What barriers exist to creating (or expanding) a dual enrollment program at my college? • Which type of dual enrollment MOU/agreement (AB 288 or non-AB 288) is most appropriate for my college? What advantages or disadvantages does each have? • Are dual enrollment offerings part of a “pathway” in concert with Guided Pathways? Or do high school partners select from a wide selection of courses? If there is a “pathway,” how is a “pathway” defined at your college? • How should neighboring CCD’s be working together? Would some basic principles at the regional level be helpful?

  7. 10:05 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. • Small Group Discussion #2: Dual Enrollment Program Implementation: • How does a college ensure from the beginning that the DE program at a high school is well designed? • Who recruits students for dual enrollment classes? • Who decides whether a student is “qualified” to take a dual enrollment course? High school instructors? High school counselors? The principal? Students? • How do we ensure that dual enrollment courses are offered in accordance with the college’s curriculum (course outline of record)? • Many dual enrollment courses (especially in CTE disciplines) are taught by high school instructors. When are some of the key ramifications of this? • What are the essential elements of an Instructional Service Agreement? Would a template for ISAs be useful? • Issues for the partner high schools, such as: • Coping with incompatible (“block”) high school schedules • The role of “proctor” instructors • Evaluation of instructors • The role of the local ROP • Should class offerings across all feeder high schools?

Is an orientation “mandatory?” Do instructors get paid to attend? • How does a college best provide equitable student services (tutoring, DSPS accommodations, counseling, etc.) at remote dual enrollment sites? What services are essential/ commonplace? • How do we work effectively with full-time college faculty to implement and sustain a dual enrollment program; are dual enrollment liaisons chosen from department faculty? • How do we ensure course/program rigor and quality (including alternative modalities) • Are there courses that are not appropriate as dual enrollment offerings?
