Singing at SBLAiming to be a singing school • Part of the curriculum in all lessons at Key Stage 3 • Non-audition choir for all (2 parts) • Auditioned ‘Chamber Choir’ (3 parts) • Advanced Vocal Ensemble (4 parts) • Staff Choir • Opportunities to perform at Christmas concerts, summer concert and other official school events • Annual musical production with in-house theatre company NIPA (Oliver - January 2012)

  3. Singing at SBLAiming to be a singing school • With all singing ensembles there is a strong emphasis on vocal technique and physical well-being with time dedicated to comprehensive warm-ups.

Benefits of Singing • Improves respiratory function as it exercises major muscle groups in the upper body • Improves the efficiency of your cardiovascular system and encourages you to take more oxygen into your body • Leads to stress reduction • Reduces social anxiety by encouraging a person to work with others • Improves posture and muscles tone around the tummy area • Reduces stress levels and blood pressure • Helps social inclusion - choirs are a great place to meet people • Broadens our range of verbal self expression

  6. Collaborative WorkRaise awareness of singing for a healthy lifestyle • Learning log to be shared with European partners • Blog leading up to the event. Website used for communication and as a base for resources • Student exchange propsed: SBL, Netherlands and Germany (October 2011) - to be discussed further with all parties • We will combine the SBL choirs with the SBL ‘Soul Band’ and prepare items to perform • Each participating school to rehearse a decided program in own schools before meeting up and rehearsing together • Series of vocal workshops • Concert
