Neal Dow’s Accomplishments • After he was elected as the mayor of Portland, Dow passed the “Maine Law” (1851), which made completely put temperance into effect in Maine. This was repealed in 1856. • In 1989, his autobiography The Reminiscences of Neal Dow was published. • Dow led a path for the temperance movement across the U.S. and also helped to abolish slavery by spreading his ideals.
