  3. What is the National Academy of Finance (NAOF)? The NAOF is a Maryland State Department of Education Career and Technology Education (CTE) program of study offered at Chopticon High School. The Academy of Finance is characteristic of the following: • It is . . . • a member of the National Academy Foundation.

What is the National Academy of Finance? • It is . . . • an interdisciplinary approach to preparing students for college and careers. • Students follow a curriculum that is intensive in Business Management and Finance. • Students take AP and honors-level courses. • Students participate in a quality internshipduring the summer between the 11th and 12th grades.

  5. Internship The internship is an opportunity for students to: • apply in a real-world setting their classroom learning, • explorecareer options in the field, • acquire collegereferences, and • networkfor future career positions.

What is the National Academy of Finance? • It is . . . • a program that allows students to combine a CTE completer program with the University of Maryland entrance requirement—known as dual completion. • a program that allows students to earn a National Academy Foundation certificate by participating in and successfully completing the online project-based assessments.

What are the two critical components for the National Academy of Finance? 2 Industry Partnerships The collaboration between the school system, businesses, community, post-secondary institutions, and government leaders (Program Advisory Council, PAC) is the avenue used to connect the real world to the classroom; and to offer students an industry validated interdisciplinary curriculum.

  28. Academic Requirements Students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Students must complete a minimum of four credits in the National Academy of Finance program sequence; and, successfully complete a internship during the summer between the 11th and 12th grades.  Students must complete a minimum of 12 credits of their high school program in advanced courses at the certificate of merit, Advanced Placement, or honors level.

  29. Academic Requirements • Students must complete, or be in the process of completing, a minimum of  three (3) Advanced Placement courses in mathematics, science, social studies, or English. This requirement may be substituted with advanced college courses which are approved through the dual enrollment or Charlotte Hall Fellows programs. General High School Requirements Students must complete the High School Assessments, as applicable; fulfill the Student Service-Learning requirement; and portfolio requirement.

Recommended Student Organizations • Students are encouraged to become members of the Future Business Leaders of America Chapter at Chopticon High School.  Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the oldest and largest national organization for students preparing for careers in business-related fields.  FBLA-PBL provides students with “real-world” professional experiences for college and career success.

  32. Admission Criteria • Writing sample • Students are required to submit a computer-generated or typed essay explaining why they want to participate in the National Academy of Finance. The essay should be free of grammatical and typographical errors. The essay should be submitted with the completed application.

  33. Transportation Bus transportation is provided. • Students attending from the CHS district will use regular transportation. • Students outside of the CHS district will use a hub system. • Transportation details are finalized once enrollment is confirmed.
