WHERE DID THE BIBLE COME FROM? • What is the Bible? • Who wrote the Bible? • Who decided which books were and were not included in the Bible? • Are there other books that belong in the Bible? • How do we know that we have the original message of the books that are included? • How do we know the Bible is God’s Word?

  2. What is the Bible? • “Bible” is a Greek word meaning “library.” • The Bible is a collection of 66 books • There are 39 Hebrew and Aramaic books • This collection is commonly called the Old Testament • There are 27 books written in Greek • These are called the New Testament

  3. What is the Bible? • In Luke 24:44 the Hebrew scriptures are divided into three sections: • Law (first five books of the O.T.) • Prophets (books of history and prophecies) • Writings (poetical books)

  4. What is the Bible? • The New Testament books are classified by content: • Four gospels about Jesus • One book of history (book of Acts which is a sequel to Gospel of Luke) • Epistles by apostles to churches and Christians • The prophetic book of Revelation
