  4. Issues we need to focus on 1. Budget: Dov is going to propose a budget for the full amount for 2 years (including division between mini grants and workshop/travel expenses. 2. what date will we use as our starting date? 3. we need to put together a careful plan on how we are going to develop the full center proposal. This is the reason the catalysts grants are awarded. What specific things will we do that will help us create a center: • The mini grants will help us explore what type of initiatives can funded by the center. Maybe our mini-grants should not only be inter-disciplinary but also inter-institutional. • What type of format of workshops will we use? We can have a series of workshops, each focused on a single topic, in which we can bring an outside expert on the subject (allows us to make contacts and can increase our visibility as a group when we contact the experts). • Travel to other centers to learn from the experts. • Start formalizing contacts with other learning communities in the Rochester area, by opening a dialog with them about their needs, etc. It might be very important to have various school districts as partisans in the full proposal.

  5. Time line • 4. What will be done when. We need to have agreements about Co-PIs this week, and start adding everyone else as Senior Investigators. Co-PIs and senior investigators, please provide a 2 page biographical sketch (with 1" margins). Please let Frank know ASAP so he could add your name to the proposal. The guideline for the biographical sketch can be found at the following URL: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2003/nsf03041/2.htm#IIC2f (see handout). Other important steps: • Have a focus group meeting next week on Monday 7/14 morning to discuss the layout of the proposal. • Next week on Wednesday 7/16 agree on the layout of the proposal. • By Monday 7/21 distribute a rough draft of the proposal to the group. • On Wednesday 7/23discussion about the draft. • During the week of 7/28 we will polish the proposal and final version be ready for final comments by the end of that week. • Submit on 8/5.
