  3. Multi-user PCMD Server ManagerIntroduction The multi-user version of PCMD allows a number of diagrams to be stored in a library. Privileged users may view or change those diagrams in a secure manner. View-only access is also provided to the diagrams for casual users. Distributed file management systems are subject to the vagaries of real-world events, and thus may occasionally require manual adjustment of their internal mechanisms. For example: a diagram that has been borrowed from the library may be lost if the borrowing PC is stolen. This document covers the software that may be used to manually adjust the file management mechanisms of a Multi-user PCMD system, and thus recover from errors.

Multi-user PCMD Server ManagerLogging on - 1 To log on to Multi-user PCMD Server Manager, the following actions are required: • Start up Multi-user PCMD Server Manager • Identify yourself • Enter your security details • If you intend to make changes to the system then attach the Multi-user PCMD Server Manager security memory stick (dongle) to your PC • Choose the forms that allow you to inspect or adjust the system.

  5. Multi-user PCMD Server ManagerLogging on - 2 Locate the Multi-user PCMD Server Manager program using Start | Programs, and click on it. The software will automatically synchronise with the PCMD file server (to make changes you need to be connected !), … show the current status of the PCMD license on this PC, … and then display the initial log on form:

  6. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Logging on - 3 … click on the dropdown arrow, and then select a user name Now enter the password for the chosen user account… (Note: passwords are case-sensitive) … and click on GO

Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Home page button overview - 1 The left-hand four buttons provide the following: • Licensed Clients displays a list of Client PCs that have been set up on this Multi-user PCMD system • Borrowed Diagrams lists the diagrams that are currently on loan to Client PCs • Library Management shows the status of the Mimic, Copy and Checkpoint diagrams in a Diagram set • Diagram Set Locks displays the state of the short-term locks that are active while a diagram set is displayed on a Diagram Transfer form (within PCMD)

Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Home page button overview - 2 The right-hand four buttons provide the following: • Server Activity Log displays a list of transactions that have been carried out on this Multi-user PCMD system • Server Configuration displays the configuration parameters of this Multi-user PCMD system • Server Diagram Admin allows diagrams to be transferred to/from an archive device • Users & Modes provides access to the system’s Users and operational Modes database

Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Licensed Clients form On this form you can see that the system has three clients, and that currently two of them have been set Authorised as they hold one or more borrowed Mimic diagrams You can also see the expiry date of their PCMD license. The revoke license button allows a Client license to be cancelled.

Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Borrowed Diagrams form This form lists the Mimic and Copy diagrams that are currently ‘on loan’ from the library, and the names of the Client PC that holds each diagram. If a diagram is lost, then the Unlock button can be used to allow the old Mimic or Copy diagram to be reactivated.

  12. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Library Management form This form shows the status of the Mimic, Copy and Checkpoint diagrams in a Diagram set. The display status includes lock information. The Delete button allows diagrams to be deleted (only permitted for Copy diagrams). The Diagram Set History list the diagram transfer operations that have been carried out.

Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Diagram Set Locks form When the Diagram Transfer form is displayed on PCMD, and a Diagram set has been selected on that form, that Diagram set is temporarily locked in the library. This form displays the Diagram sets that are currently locked. The Break lock button allows the diagram lock to be cancelled.

  14. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Server Activity Log form This form displays a list of transactions that have been carried out on the current Multi-user PCMD system

  15. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Server Configuration form This form displays the configuration parameters of the current Multi-user PCMD system The number of days that a Client license will operate, without the client PC being connected to the server may be adjusted on this form.

  16. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Server Diagram Admin form This form allows diagrams to be transferred to/from an archive device. For further details please refer to the System management section of the main PCMD training document.

  17. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Users & Modes form This form provides access to the system’s Users and operational Modes database. For further details please refer to the System management section of the main PCMD training document, and the supplement on the following page.

  18. Multi-user PCMD Server Manager Users & Modes form For the Multi-user version of PCMD, the User Modify form has three additional tick boxes: • The Server Admin box must be ticked if a user is to be permitted to carry out administration changes • The Privileged User box must be ticked if a User is to be permitted to borrow Mimic diagrams. • The Client Update box must be ticked if the User is to be allowed to update the version of PCMD on the client PC that he is using.
