  1. Novel BioDiesel Production

    Jesse, Jeff, Yong, John, Chris
  2. Technology Overview Metal Catalyst instead of sodium peroxide in current processes. Reactor system, continuous process vs. current batch process. Catalyst is contained, no washing of biodiesel and glycerol products required. Catalyst is able to convert a variety of oils to biodiesel and seem to be unaffected by feedstock water content.
  3. Main Opportunities The metal catalyst reactor allows for flexibility in using a variety of feedstocks so producers are not tied to a particular resource. The metal catalyst reactor system has great potential in reducing the cost of production in biodiesel manufacture. Catalyst cost reduced Feedstock cost reduced Low energy requirements Removes expensive and complex components The metal catalyst system needs no washing or treatment of products and needs no disposal of mass quantities of catalyst, making it more environmentally friendly.
  4. Concept Statement “A cost effective alternative to the current bio-diesel production process is to use a metal catalyst which allows for greater production system flexibility and efficiency.”
  5. Costumer Primary customer is the biodiesel production facilities both new and existing. Current plans are to target not yet completed new facilities first as their switching costs will be low. Gatekeeper: Engineering firms that build and support the refineries will need to be convinced that the metal catalyst system is superior and should be designed into new and existing facilities.
  6. Market
  7. Market Continued Currently 176 production facilities in US. Consumption is deceptive, further research required on capacity and production.
  8. Business Model Earn revenue from service and sale of metal catalyst reactors. Reactors will utilize cartridge system requiring replacement every x number of gallons so that catalyst continuously performs at adequate efficiency and does not poison. Profitable: catalyst and cartridge cheap to produce but essential to function of the system. Durable: Patent protection means exclusivity and system integration mean that sale of new cartridges continues for life of production plant.
  9. Draft of Timeline Year 0-1: Prove concept. Get pilot plant online and prove production characteristics of metal catalyst reactor. Year 1: Begin sale and distribution of systems to engineering firms and production centers. Year 2-5: Continuously grow market share aggressively to get as many plants using this system as possible. Year 5+: Begin looking to harvest.
  10. Harvest Harvest potential relies on sale of patent. Once market share established along with credibility and cost savings of metal catalyst system, will sell patent to catalyst manufacturer.
