  2. 1. NET.S: Creativity and InnovationStudents demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. How you can use it in the classroom: A: This lesson will be created for students in a second grade classroom. The students are learning a science lessons about the different classifications of animals (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, etc.) They will be using kidspiration app on the ipad to create a web about the features of animals that fit in each classification. S: The specific objectives will meet the science standards under the core curriculum. S: The students will be placed in small groups of three to four students. They will use an ipad and make a concept web showing the features of the animal classification group they are given. They will then display their work on the smartboard. U: The students will create a web on the ipad, in the classroom (using the classroom set) and then work together to create a short writing piece (2-3 sentences) about their animal group. They will present it to the class using reflection software, which will display their creation on the smartboard. R: All students will be required to work together to create a product to present to the class. The teacher will be walking around and helping the groups as they work to create a project. E: The teacher will give students feedback based on what they present to the class.

  3. 2. NET.S: Communication and CollaborationStudents use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning, and contribute to the learning of others. How to use it in your classroom: A: This lesson is created for a second grade classroom. The students will be using digital cameras to capture geometric shapes throughout the building on a “geometry scavenger hunt.” They will share their findings by displaying them on the smartboard. S: The lesson will cover the state standards in the content area of math as set by the common core curriculum. S: Students will be put into small groups and go out with an adult to look around the school and take pictures (using a digital camera) of geometric shapes (i.e.: the door is a rectangle). They will bring back their camera and the teacher will upload them onto the computer which will display them on the smartboard. U: The teacher will give each group a digital camera to use around the school and they will present the pictures in the classroom on the smartboard. R: Students will be able to take pictures anywhere in the building using a handheld digital camera. E: The teacher will evaluate the students based on the pictures they took and their explanation as to what geometric shape it was.

  4. 3. NET.S: Research and Information FluencyStudents apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. How to use it in a classroom: A: This activity is designed for second grade students. They will be learning about the classifications of leaves and using digital tools to identify leaves and take pictures of them. S: This lesson will target the state standards for the content area of science (living things) as stated under the core curriculum. S: Students will be placed in groups of three and receive an iPad. With a teacher, they will go outside and take pictures of leaves on the ground using the application leafsnap. They will then record their results on the smartboard in a large group format. U: The students will utilize the ipads from the classroom and use them outside. They will use the smartboard that is in the classroom by putting their ipads under the ELMO Projector to show their classmates what they saw. R: Students will be able to roam around a restricted area to capture pictures of their leaves. After a given time, they will meet back in the classroom. E: The groups will take time showing pictures of the leaves and recording the type of leaves on the class graph to see what kind of leaves they have the most of on school property.

  5. 4.NET.S: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making.Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. How to use it in a classroom: A: This activity will be used with second grade students. They are learning about homophones and will be required to create a one slide presentation using a set of homophones in a sentence. They will choose the technology they want to use to present it. S: This will cover the state mandated standards under the language arts curriculum as set by the core curriculum. S: Students will be able to use the computer, digital camera, PowerPoint software, kidpix, ipad, or video camera to present their homophone presentation. U: Students will decide which technology they want to use to create their presentation. They will then use parent volunteers to help students film their presentation or create it using the computer lab, library, and classroom technologies. R: Students will get to choose how to present their projects and where they go to create the project – computer lab and classroom. E: The students will share their presentations using the smartboard in the classroom.

  6. 5.NET.S: Digital CitizenshipStudents understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practical legal and ethical behavior. How to use it in a classroom: A: This activity is designed for second grade students and will focus on recognizing appropriate behavior when using technology. S: This will meet the state standards based on the technology curriculum as set by the school. S: The students will use the Smartresponse clickers and answer questions on the smartboard. U: The teacher will create a case scenario quiz using Smartresponse software which will allow the students to answer the multiple choice questions regarding behavior when using technology, by using the smartresponse clickers. R: All students will be able to take the quiz from the classroom. E: The teacher will be able to review the results and see the strengths of the areas where students can specifically recognize appropriate and inappropriate comments and use of technology.

  7. 6. NET.S: Technology Operations and ConceptsStudents demonstrate a sound understanding of technology, concepts, systems, and operations. How to use it in your classroom: A: This lesson is created for second grade students. They will be working with kindergartners to demonstrate how to use an ipad and access applications. S: This lesson will meet the school standards for the technology curriculum. S: Each second grader will be partnered up with a kindergarten buddy. Then, each pair will receive an ipad. It will be up to the second grader to demonstrate how to turn the device on, access an application, “play” an application, close an application, and shut down the device. They will also show the kindergartner how to plug it into the charging station so it is ready for the next person to use it. U: The students utilized the materials in the kindergarten classroom but since the ipads are on a rolling cart, could have utilized them anywhere. R: Each second grader will be able to work with a kindergartner student allowing both teachers (second and kindergarten) to circulate and evaluate. E: The kindergartner teacher will allow her students to use the ipads on their own, seeing if they are able to complete the tasks with minimal assistance from adults or other children.
