He is a writer. The humble ambition that inspired me to write The Rap Canterbury Tales was a desire to resurrect Chaucer’s brilliant stories from their vellum mausoleum by giving them a new form that would once again delight and edify live listening audiences, while at the same time redeeming hip-hop in the eyes of my parents’ generation. Since Chaucer is an unassailable icon of literary culture and the old guard, I saw his poetry as a valuable tool to dismantle the widespread prejudice against hip-hop culture, which gave birth to the art form I love. Also, since hip-hop is an unassailable icon of contemporary cool, I saw it as the perfect medium to deliver Chaucer’s message to a younger generation growing indifferent to the delights of archaic literature.
Students can easily learn subject matter when rapped or rhymed.
Brinkman rapped about Darwin’s Theory in a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway Show.
His rapping style is called “Lit-Hop.” “Baba has independently recorded and released ten original hip-hop albums since 2004, as well as executive producing and collaborating with a range of artists.
