In the Spring 2010 Tucson High School Biotechnology course, students conducted DNA gel electrophoresis experiments to analyze various virus DNA samples, including psbA, DNA polymerase, and g23. Students explored the significance of positive and negative controls to determine expected results. The focus was on interpreting gel results to confirm hypotheses about myoviruses and podoviruses. Further, discussions on DNA clean-up processes, including PCR reaction components and methodologies, highlighted the importance of maintaining sample integrity for sequencing.
