Splinting • What is splinting? Splinting is a method of immobilizing an injured part of the body. Splinting should only be used if you have to move or transport the person and if it does not cause more pain.
Splinting • If you do not have to move the person then use the R.I.C.E method: R: Rest I: Immobilize C: Cold E: Elevate
Splinting • Types of splints: Anatomic Splints Soft Splints Rigid Splints

Splinting • Applying a rigid splint: • Support the injured body part above and below the site of the injury. • Check for feeling, warmth, and color. • Place the “board” under the injured body part and the joints that are above and below the injured body part. • Tie several bandages above and below the injured body part. • Recheck for feeling, warmth, and color.
Drags & Carries • The ONLY time you move an injured person is: • When you are faced with immediate danger. And/or 2. When it is necessary to give proper care.
