  2. Genre The Genre of My Side of the Mountain is realistic fiction because it is not a true story but it could happen in real life. It is realistic fiction because of these reasons. Because it did not have talking animals or fictional characters, but it never said it was a true story. It could happen because of these details. It takes place in the real world, and it made him survive without fictional items or characters.

  3. Point of View • It is first person view. Sam Gribley is the main character and he is telling the story. Every time he is alone he tells you what he is thinking. He is always is saying I did this and I did that and always saying how he fells. It is kind of like a diary he is writing in the woods as he survives. He is also saying everything he does.

  4. PLOT He runs away to catskill mountian so he can escape from all of the crowd in New york city. The story is in order that means the book is chronological . Below is a pic of the Catskill Mountains.

  5. Character Development • At the start of the story Sam Gribley was brave and smart, but didn’t know how to live off the land. • At the end of the story Sam has learned to live off the land and is smarter than he was at the start, and he is now one of the bravest people in the world.

  6. SETTING • New York: To go to the library to find out about falcons and to get a haircut. • Gribley’s farm: He wanted to get supplies to build his house. • The Gorge by his house: That’s where he got his falcon • Catskill Mountain: That’s where he ran away to.

  7. Vocabulary Upholstered: The covering of something. Beech: Tree with smooth gray bark and glossy leave. Gangplank: A movable bridge used in getting on and off a ship. Whittling: To cut or shape with a knife. Jesses: A short strap fastened around the leg of a hawk and attached to the leash. 8. Text-To-Self Connection Conner: I’ve been lost in the woods before, and I’ve had to be smart and follow the stars and find my house. Joey: Sam Gribley likes to live and hunt in the wilderness and I always want to live in the woods and hunt. Toby: Me and my cousin one time went in the woods and we got lost it took us awhile to get back home but we did it. Alan v: I have went fishing with a bambo stick like Sam did. They are located approximately 100 miles North-Northwest of New York City and forty southwest of Albany, starting just west of the Hudson River. Catskill park is 700,000 acre. The width of the mountain is 102 miles, the length is 111 miles, and the area is 15,259 km(5,892 sq miles).

  10. Problem Solving “Will he survive in the winter” was one of the mainproblems in the story. He had to gather food and firewood to survive the winter. Conner: I would have just gone to live in the city for the winter and just wait. Joey: I would go and try to survive in the winter I would get enough food and wood for a whole year. Alan .P : I would stay at the city and stay in and be warm with my family. Toby: I would run away during spring and come back during the winter.
