Student Enrollment 35,526 • 16,129 elementary students • 28 elementary schools • 2 K-6 schools • 1K-8 schools • 9,013middle school students • 9 middle schools • 10,384 high school students • 9 high schools • Growth for the last 2 years had slowed to only about 500 new students a year. This year’s projection is 600 new students.

Teachers • 1767 teachers (127 fewer than state allocation) • 99% of these teachers are fully certified and highly qualified to teach in their subject area. • The average elementary teacher will earn $42,468, meaning their income ranks 45rd out of the state’s 114 school districts. • The average secondary teacher will earn $43,287, ranking them 54nd out of 114 districts.

  18. Administration In the most recent audit of administrative costs by the Office of Performance Evaluation, Joint School District No. 2 had the second lowest administrative costs in Idaho. This year, the district qualifies for 130 administrators, and has hired 111.

Support Staff • 950 full and part-time non-certified staff • computer aides • special education aides • bus drivers • food service staff • custodians • school secretaries • central office staff • crossing guards, safe school assistants, etc • Custodians clean and maintain 4,610,000 square feet of building space and 860 acres of lawn • Food service staff prepare 3,374,768 meals, approximately 19,735per day, plus ala carte items and after school snacks • More than 1450 substitutes teach 47,060 days

Transportation • Bus drivers transport 13,405 students to school on 211 buses each day • The bus fleet logs slightly less than 3 millionmiles • The oldest has been in operation since1990 • The school buses cover 331 routes each day, down from a high of 554; the number of bus stops was reduced by more than 1,400 over the last two years • Mid-day kindergarten busing will not be provided again this year

  21. Students • 51.5% are males. • 48.5% are female. • .68% are black. • 4.61% are Hispanic. • .44% are native American. • 1.12% are Asian.

Students • 9.7% receive special education services. • 4.5% qualify as gifted and talented. • 5.4% are non-English speakers; in total they speak 70 different languages, including Acholi, Kizigua, Mai-mai, Tamil, and Urdu. • 32%% qualify for free and reduced lunch (up from a 27.26% last year and 21% the year prior to that).

Student Achievement • 92.4% Graduation Rate • 94% Proficient or Advanced on the Reading ISAT • 88% Proficient or Advance on the Math ISAT • The district achieves these results on $4,077 in state funding, the lowest level of funding in the United States among school districts with more than 10,000 students.
