  1. Zero Gravity Geometrycreated by Brent Melton Teachers Students

  2. Audience • Grades 9-10 • Geometry Students • Students are learning about the area and volume of circles and spheres. • Wealthy community

  3. Environment • Student should complete individually • Computer lab or a classroom with a computer • Student should not be bothered until the student has completed the program • Student will need a scientific calculator

  4. Objectives • Given a diagram of a circle, students should be able to compute the circumference, radius, diameter, and area correctly. • Given a diagram of a sphere, students should be able to compute the volume and surface area correctly.

  6. Surface Area Diameter Volume Radius Circumference Area Click on a planet to learn about the topic! Take the quiz after visiting all topics. Quiz

  7. Surface Area is the amount it would take to cover the outer region, or shell, of a sphere.

  8. The formula for the Surface Area of a sphere is 4pr2. r = radius This is similar to the formula for Area just with a 4 in front.

  9. Hint: The formula for SA is 4pr2 Practice your understanding. Correct! Find the Surface Area of the Sun. 1,934,881,000,000pkm2 2,782,000pkm2 695,500pkm2 483,720,250,000pkm2 Try Again! A Try Again! B Try Again! 1,391,000km C D

  11. Area is the amount of space that fills a circle. For instance, it’s going to take so many square inches of coloring to fill this circle.

  12. The equation for the Area of a circle is pr2. r = radius

  13. Hint: The Area of a circle is pr2. Practice your understanding. Try Again! Find the Area of Venus. 12,103.6pkm2 110.016pkm2 146,497,132.96pkm2 585,988,531.84pkm2 Try Again! A Correct! 12,103.6km B Try Again! C D

  14. Click on the play button to see how to do the problem.

  15. Radius is used for almost every equation with a circular or spherical shape.

  16. Radius is the length from the outside of a circle or sphere to the centermost point.

  17. Hint: The Radius is half of the diameter. Practice your understanding. Try Again! Find the Radius of Earth. 12,756.2km 6,378.1km 12,756.2pkm 6,378pkm Correct! A Try Again! B Try Again! 12,756.2km C D

  18. Click on the play button to see how to do the problem.

  19. Diameter is used alternatively in almost every circular or spherical formula.

  20. Diameter is the length across the circle or sphere.

  21. Hint: The Diameter is twice the length of the radius. Practice your understanding. Try Again! Find the Diameter of Neptune. 24,764pkm 24,764km 49,528pkm 49,528km Try Again! A Try Again! 24,764km B Correct! C D

  22. Click on the play button to see how to do the problem.

  23. Circumference is the measurement of the entire outer length of a circle.

  24. The formula for the circumference of a circle is 2pr or dp. d = diameter

  25. Hint: The formula for Circumference is dp. Practice your understanding. Try Again! Find the Circumference of Jupiter. 142,984km 71,492pkm 142,984pkm 71,492km Try Again! A Correct! B Try Again! 142,984km C D

  26. Click on the play button to see how to do the problem.

  27. Volume is the measurement of space that can fill a sphere.

  28. The formula for the Volume of a sphere is 4/3pr3. r = radius

  29. Hint: The formula for Volume of a sphere is 4/3pr3. Practice your understanding. Correct! Find the Volume of Saturn. 291,876,463,425,110pkm3 218,907,347,568,832pkm3 2,335,011,707,400,900pkm3 1,751,258,780,550,656pkm3 Try Again! A Try Again! B 120,536km Try Again! C D
