Global Solar Hot Water Capacity Reaches 154 GWth as Market Faces Decline

As of 2006, the global solar hot water system capacity reached 108 GW, with China contributing 70 GW and an impressive growth rate of approximately 20% per year. In the USA, around 14% of energy is utilized for water heating. However, the market for glazed collectors in the 27 EU Member States and Switzerland declined by 9%, resulting in 1.9 GWth of new capacity. By the end of 2007, total operational capacity rose to 154 GWth, equivalent to 22 million m², reflecting both growth potential and challenges in the industry.
