This equates to 16.4% of Fife’s working age population. • The level of claimants varies throughout Fife. North East Fife has the lowest density of claimants whilst central Fife has areas of significant numbers of benefit claimants. Qualifications Average Level of Qualification, Economically Active Population, 2012 • Did you know? • In 2012, Fife had a higher proportion of people in its workforce who are educated to NVQ4 or above (degree level) compared to Scotland and the UK. • The proportion of Fife’s economically active with no qualifications is significantly lower than the rest of Scotland or the UK. Employment Changes in Employment by Industry, 2006-2012 Public/Private Employment, 2008-2012 • Did you know? • Employment in Fife’s Banking, Finance and Insurance sector increased by 21.8% between 2006-2012. This sector accounts for 24,600 people or 15.1% of the total employment in Fife. • Fife’s Manufacturing sector shows the greatest reduction in employment numbers with a 16.6% (3,400 people) • Did you know? • The public sector workforce in Fife made up 30.5% of total employment in 2012. • Fife continues to report a higher percentage of public sector employment than Scotland. Employment Change in Full-time Employment, 2006-2012 • Did you know? • A decline in the number of people working full-time and part-time between 2006 and 2012 has been recorded in Fife with a drop of 7,900 and 2,900 respectively. • Between 2011 and 2012, Fife seen a rise in the number of people working full-time (900 people).
