  3. Before or After • Genre can be a plan or blueprint for a story • Celebrations of a theme or ideal • Characters will be functional and static • Stories will be predictable – or its not the genre

  4. Generic Paradox • The act of defining any particular genre is: “defining a Western on the basis of analysing a body of films that cannot possibly be said to be Westerns until after the analysis.”

  5. Game Genre • Adds a new dimension: • Style of gameplay • The actions available to the player • Point of View • Control style/options • Object of the game Interactivity
