Here’s Mary’s book on Shemi. Now watch out for Shemi!. This is Shemi as drawn by Jac Jones who illustrated Mary’s book. And this is Shemi himself ! He was about 80 when he died in 1897. The photo was taken by Charles Edwards - this was his studio in Fishguard.

  5. Here are some of Shemi’s places:

  6. Rhos-y-caerau Chapel is where Shemi was christened and buried

  7. Goodwick was Shemi’s village

  8. Duke Street in Goodwick is where he lived

  9. Shemi used to fish on Goodwick beach

  10. And here’s the Rose and Crown - it was Shemi’s favourite pub

  11. Here are some local people of Shemi’s time:

  16. How we know about Shemi:

  17. Dewi Emrys was a famous Welsh writer who grew up knowing Shemi He wrote about Shemi in this book published in 1937

  18. D.J. Williams ( left) was another Welsh writer who made a radio programme on Shemi in 1936

  19. D. J. Williams lived opposite Mary when she was a little girl

  20. Mary’s father knew lots about Shemi and told her some of the stories

  21. Mary when she was a little girl

  22. And here is Mary’s father when he was about 80 – still telling Shemi stories!

  23. Shemi and his tales live on!
