The City of Marshall, Minnesota, seeks $2.5 million in state bonding to expand its Vehicle Training Center, critical for emergency response and driver education. The expanded facility will offer enhanced services, including driver skills courses, classroom simulators, hands-on personal training, and specialized training for ambulance, fire, police, and rescue personnel. Statewide & Regional Significance • Demand for driving safety facilities statewide. • MERIT Center services a 19 county region in the Southwest including the Lower and Upper Sioux Indian Communities. • MnDOT Highway Safety Priorities - Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) Program. • Supplemental personal vehicle and commercial vehicles driving training.
Local and Regional Support • In November 2012, citizen’s of the City of Marshall Overwhelmingly voted to approve local sales taxes to support the MERIT Center and related partner project • 6 Surrounding Cities in region passed resolutions of support for the MERIT Center and related partner project. • Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce has passed a resolution of support and has advocated for the project locally including past legislative testimony. • Area Businesses have provided Letters of Support.
