Preparing a slide. Before adding the sample, clean the slide with ethanol and cotton wool. Clean the coverslip with the ethanol and cotton wool. Using the pipette, place one drop of pond water on the slide. Lower slowly to avoid forming air bubbles. Hold at a 45° angle. Guidelines for use.

  2. Guidelines for use • Always carry with two hands • Only use lens paper for cleaning • Do not force the knobs • Always store covered • Keep objects clear of the desk and cords • Never use the coarse adjustment knob with the high power objective lens in place

  3. Magnification • Your microscope has 3 magnifications: • Scanning, low and high • Each objective will have the magnification written. In addition to this the ocular lens (eyepiece) has a magnification. • The total magnification is the ocular x objective
